A Tandem on a Train!

Welcome back to Britain

Setting off

Two days to catch the ferry at Hull. Will we make it?

We are on the road!

The tandem is back on the road!  A fantastic British Racing Green respray followed by a fantastic reassembly by John at J D Tandems and as you can see we are back on the road!  A first ride from Ilkley to Harrogate with only a couple of hills defeating us and hopefully a  good few miles to follow over the summer.New tandem edit

Frameset gone for respray!

A big step forward this week as the tandem frame has gone to Bob Jackson Cycles for a respray.  They are going to restore to better than its former glory with a British Racing Green enamel and a brazed on centrepull hanger at the rear.  Progress with the rear wheel as well; the bearings are fine and thanks to a bit of help from JD Tandems I now know the brake shoes had delaminated and everything was seized inside the drum.  Hopefully a new set of shoes and a good clean up will have this working again okay.

Wheel still not turning

No progress on the back wheel yet but the chainset has all been stripped & cleaned and the triple assembled with new bolts from my bits box.  Need to find my single bolts for the non drive side and the chainset will be good to go!

Another project started

Yesterday I started to strip my old Dawes tandem.  It needs a complete overhaul starting with the back wheel which won’t even spin round.  Either the drum brake must be seized or the bearings have gone.
